McAllen, Texas — June 3, 2026 — Futuro RGV recently hosted its 2026 Community Leader and Emerging Leader Award Ceremony, celebrating the exceptional individuals driving positive change, economic development, and educational advancement across the Rio Grande Valley.
During the event, the organization presented its top honors to Dr. Ricardo J. Solis, President of South Texas College, and Anahi Ortega, a pre-medical student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Dr. Solis was awarded the prestigious Futuro RGV Community Leader Award in recognition of his transformative leadership in higher education and workforce development across the region. During his acceptance, Dr. Solis delivered a poignant tribute to the late Dr. Nedra Kinerk, a foundational figure in local civic engagement, reminding attendees of the profound and lasting impact of passionate community leadership.
The organization also awarded the Dr. Nedra S. Kinerk Emerging Leader Scholarship to Anahi Ortega. Ortega was selected for her exceptional dedication to community service and her academic rigor as she pursues a career in medicine at UTRGV.
The ceremony highlighted Futuro RGV’s ongoing mission to bridge the gap between established regional leaders and the next generation of changemakers.
