It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Nedra S. Kinerk, our founding president and President Emerita, who departed on May 12, 2025.
Dr. Kinerk was a visionary leader, educator, and tireless advocate for civic engagement and community development in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1999, she founded Futuro McAllen, which evolved into Futuro RGV, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in our region. Her commitment to transparency, public service, and inclusive dialogue set a standard that continues to guide our mission today.
Beyond her work with Futuro RGV, Dr. Kinerk was instrumental in establishing the McAllen Heritage Center and the PalmFest International Folklife Celebration. Her contributions were recognized at the state level when the Texas Senate passed a resolution in 2023 honoring her service to McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley.
In February 2025, Dr. Kinerk retired as president of Futuro RGV and was named President Emerita. In her honor, the organization established the Dr. Nedra S. Kinerk Emerging Leaders Scholarship, ensuring her legacy of empowering future leaders endures.
Dr. Kinerk’s unwavering dedication and compassionate leadership have left an indelible mark on our community. She will be profoundly missed.
